Grain composition of suspensions was determined in precipitation samples collected at five sites in the Upper and Lower Silesia region (southern and south-western Poland) over a period of three years (2003-2005). Laser diffraction particle size analyzer was used in this study. Variety of probability density distribution functions of particles size in snow and rain waters obtained during analysis suggests the necessity of further research in order to systematize the data. Cluster analysis was used to this purpose. Research, presented in this paper, was conducted within the Research Project of Polish State Committee for Scientific Research 3 PO4 GO5125 “Application of the laser diffraction particle size analyzer to monitoring the surface waters”.

By evaluation of an extensive yield database a biomass yield model [bym] was developed. It is based on site specific yield functions and crop rotation algorithms. In combination with geodata it is possible to calculate regional biomass on the level of municipalities. The conversion to a GIS was performed in Visual Basic for Application (VBA). Exemplary winter rye production for bioethanol in the petrol refinery at Schwedt (East Germany) is presented to point out possibilities for the evaluation of agricultural bioenergy potentials.
