The European eHealth initiative – objectives and solutions

Zusammenfassung
eHealth applications are a key factor of success for national health systems. Background, objectives, definitions and an application taxonomy are presented. After this the paper gives a review about background, objectives and actions of the European Commission eHealth-strategy. Examples for card-based solutions in some of the member states are presented and in conclusion the main issues are discussed.
