The calculation of transport emissions is a basic step in many environmental analyses, despite the fact that the data base of typical transport operations is very heterogeneous and poor. The results of different software tools vary in an unacceptable range. Aspects like the vehicle size, emission reduction technologies, vehicle load factors and the distribution of the milage on different road categories are mostly neglected or the used data are obsolete. In behalf of the Federal Environmental Agency in Berlin a data and calculation model and the software tool TREMOD were developped within the last few years. They are a comprehensive basis for all energy and emission calculations and forecasts in the transport sector in Germany. The results in form of aggregated emission factors should be used in other analysis tools like LCA software in order to replace inexact data sets.
