The Polish Implementation of AQUADOC-INTER Project

Abstract

During the INBO's (International Network of Basin Organizations) General Assembly in Valencia in 1997 it was decided to create the international website for exchanging information on water management via the Internet. The system should help with the exchange of bibliographic, technical and management information on water between members of INBO. From a technical point of view that system uses the possibilities of fast developing computer science and telecommunication. In Poland regional boards for water management (Polish abbreviation RZGW) together with the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMWM, Polish abbreviation IMGW) have started creating of the unique in the country "The System of Water Information" –AQUADOC-INTER (www.aquadoc.pl). In the year 2001 the National Relay Documentation Centre (NRDC) in Poland was created. Its tasks include: assisting in obtaining information about water, informing about realized or planned research and development programmes, integrating all professionals connected with water, active participation in the international exchange of know-how information in the water sector.
